In 2016 Colleen Lutz and Mary King performed WAVE analysis in coordination with New York State Department of Environmental conservation at six locations in the upper part of the Roeliff Jansen Kill. WAVE analysis looks at the types of macroinvertebrates in the water to assess water quality. It’s an alternative assessment to the Enterococcus sampling that was also performed in 2016 by the Roe Jan Watershed Community.
Two locations, Black Grocery Road and Wiltsie Bridge/Snyder Road were assessed as “No Known Impact,” which is the highest quality category.
